Description: The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is conducted under the guidance and supervision of one of our NRA certified instructors. The course is intended for all adults regardless of skill level, experience, or NRA affiliation. This is the instructor led only course, and there will be no online component to this course.
Safety Notice and Consequences of Violation of Safety Procedures:
This is a cold classroom course. Students’ equipment will be inspected before they enter the classroom, and every time they re-enter the classroom with their equipment there after. All firearms brought into Palmetto State Armory stores must be in an enclosed case with an integral fastener (ex. Soft case, hard case, range bag, etc.) Students who are found to sneak live ammunition into the classroom or have an uncased firearm outside of the classroom will be asked to leave and there will be no refund given.
Topics Covered: Firearm safety, revolver operation, pistol operation, ammunition nomenclature, ammunition selection, handgun fit and selection, proper storage practices, marksmanship fundamentals, range etiquette, and pistol inspection and maintenance.
Certificate of Completion: Our NRA certified instructor will also validate comprehension and application of gun safety rules; range protocol; proper handling; loading and unloading procedures; application of pistol shooting fundamentals; stable shooting positions; live fire; and a final shooting qualification. A score of 90% is required on the in class written test for students to receive their certificate. The test is open book and students may attempt the test up to 5 times (by appointment only after the first attempt). Students who excel in the live fire portion may also be given a NRA Marksmanship certificate.
• Firearm (If you do not have a pistol or revolver one may be borrowed from the range for the shooting portion of the course but you will have to purchase ammunition)
• 100 rounds of ammunition
• Pen and Notepad
• Appropriate range attire (No low cut tops, sleeveless shirts/blouses, tank tops, open toed shoes.) (Pants rather than shorts are recommended.)
Course Length: 8-Hours
*This is an objectives based course. The class length will vary depending on questions, and student comprehension. 8 Hours is the advised maximum amount of time for the course.
There will be break periods throughout the day and approximately an hour for lunch (Not Provided)
